Eisvogel® is one of the most unusual and spectacular hybrid tea roses created by the prestigious German house Rosen Tantau. Its fascinating color, rich flower shape, and intense fragrance make it a truly special variety, intended for those who seek a rose different from classic varieties.
The flowers are large, very petal-rich, reaching approximately 10–12 cm in diameter. They open in a cool and sophisticated shade of violet-lilac, and warm tones of copper, apricot, and orange gradually appear from the center of the bloom.
The contrast between the cool violet shades and the warm center with coppery reflections creates a spectacular chromatic effect. As the flower evolves, the colors intermingle and gain depth, so that each stage of flowering offers a slightly different image.
The flowers have a globular and nostalgic shape, gradually becoming very full and elegant. They can have around 50 petals, which gives them the rich and romantic look typical of old-fashioned roses.
Just as impressive as the color is the fragrance. Rosen Tantau describes Eisvogel® as offering a true “cloud of fragrance”. The aroma is intense, exotic, and tropical, turning being near the bush into a distinct olfactory experience.
Flowering is repeat, with new waves of flowers throughout the season.
The plant develops a compact, bushy, and upright-growing shrub, reaching approximately 80–120 cm in height and around 40–50 cm in width. Its balanced dimensions allow for easy integration both into rose beds and into mixed gardens alongside perennial plants.
The flowers are also very suitable for cutting, their rich shape, unusual coloring, and strong fragrance making them an excellent choice for bouquets and floral arrangements.
For group plantings, Rosen Tantau recommends approximately 5–6 plants/m², corresponding to a planting distance of approximately 40–50 cm.
The name “Eisvogel” means “Kingfisher” in German, and the spectacular combination of violet, blue-lilac, and copper perfectly evokes the play of colors in this bird's plumage.
Mysterious, elegant, and deeply fragrant, Eisvogel® is the ideal choice for lovers of roses with personality who are looking for a variety with rare coloring and a fragrance that is impossible to ignore.
Recommended for cut flowers in vases and floral arrangements. The cut flower has a vase life of approximately 5 days.
Quality 1+ (premium). The bushes are 2 years old, healthy, and obtained by grafting onto the strongest rootstock currently available in the world. This gives the roses vigor and great long-term resistance.
